Former footballer Goran Vucevic has claimed Ange Postecoglou already has the solution in his squad for his midfield conundrum ahead of Wednesday’s match.

He believes the solution comes in the form of right-back Josip Juranovic, with the defender having previous experience of playing as a midfielder.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Old Firm derby, Postecoglou finds himself without Callum McGregor and David Turnbull due to their respective injuries.

Vucevic was working as sporting director at Hajduk Split when Juranovic was signed, having shown his ability in midfield at his former club Dubrava.

“Josip from the beginning was a midfield player. He played amazing in that position and for me, he can do an excellent job,” Vucevic told the Daily Record.

The Croatian has already played in midfield for Postecoglou this season in their 3-1 victory over St. Johnstone, which saw the 26-year-old feature in a defensive midfield role.

And during his time with Split, Juranovic played nine games as either a central midfielder or defensive midfielder, despite the majority of his game time coming as a right-back (via Transfermarkt).

To add to Postecoglou’s injury issues, Tom Rogic could miss the game as he remains on international duty with Australia, who play their final game on Tuesday.

TIF Thoughts on Josip Juranovic in Celtic’s midfield…

It seems Vucevic has huge confidence in the prospect of Juranovic playing a little bit further up the field for Postecoglou on Wednesday night.

However, it is a huge game not only for the bragging rights in Glasgow, but also in the title race for the Scottish Premiership title.

With the Bhoys exploring the possibility of Rogic returning in time from international duty, we think Postecoglou will be hopeful the Australian will be able to play, however, it certainly seems like he will have a solid option in Juranovic – going off Vucevic’s verdict.
