Chief football writer at the Scottish Daily Mail Stephen McGowan has reported that Jim Goodwin is ‘close’ to becoming the new Aberdeen boss.
Goodwin is the current St. Mirren manager and has been heavily linked with the Aberdeen job after the Dons reportedly had an initial approach to speak to him rejected by the Buddies following the dismissal of Stephen Glass.
According to The Daily Record, Aberdeen are attempting to negotiate with St. Mirren, but they may have to pay £250k to get the deal over the line.
It is clear that St. Mirren don’t want to lose their man, but McGowan has reported that a deal is ‘close’ after the clubs were now ‘back in contact’ as of Friday morning.
McGowan reported on Twitter: “Aberdeen back in contact with St Mirren over a move for manager Jim Goodwin. Deal close.”

With the reports that Goodwin was ‘keen’ to talk to Aberdeen over replacing Glass as Pittodrie manager, as much as St. Mirren don’t want to let him go, it appears the deal could be imminent.
However, the deal has been put on a halt. With St. Mirren making life hard for Aberdeen by rejecting an offer even to speak to their gaffer, they insist that if they are that interested in the Irish manager, they would have to pay a fee of £250k.
Although this seems like a lot for a manager, Aberdeen have had a horrid season and are in much need to be saved.
Goodwin could well be the man to save the Granite City after he spurred the Buddies on and improved them to a great extent. They currently sit in the top six in the Scottish Premiership, are in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals and are in their best run of form for over three years.
So if Goodwin can make the same impact at Aberdeen, then he will certainly be worth the £250k asking price.
