Retired footballer turned pundit Tony Cottee has slammed the West Ham United board for failing to bring in any new signings in the January transfer market.

With the Hammers pushing for a spot in Europe next season, they may well need reinforcements to secure them a place in the top six. However, as the winter window has now come and gone without the club making a single signing, David Moyes will now have to make do with the squad left available to him.

Cottee, a former West Ham man himself, was seemingly not at all pleased with this lack of business and took to Twitter to explain how he couldn’t comprehend the situation, saying he felt ‘bitterly disappointed’ by it all.

Will West Ham's lack of transfers cost them top six?

He wrote: “I don’t understand why we have not signed any player, particularly the CF we’ve all known we’ve needed for years. Gutted for David Moyes, now was the time to back him and improve the squad to challenge in the EL. I know I won’t be the only bitterly disappointed Hammer tonight.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham and their lack of transfer activity…

There’s little doubting West Ham were after some new signings this January. Indeed, a plethora of names were linked with the club over the past month.

Cottee points to the lack of options up front as a particular issue, and the Hammers were linked with a number of options in that area. The likes of Southampton loanee Armando Broja and Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz were both said to be targets in the closing days of the window.

Still, with no signings made, the retired England international has been left to vent his frustration online. Only time will tell how much the club’s decisions last month could impact West Ham’s season.
