Broadcaster Richard Keys has slammed West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady over the incident surrounding Kurt Zouma.
The West Ham defender has been under intense scrutiny in recent days following the video that emerged surrounding him and his pet cat.
Claims were circulating that he was set to lose his place in the side for their recent Premier League game against Watford, only for him to be named in the starting eleven. The decision to do so, as well as the club’s overall handling of the matter, has drawn criticism from many in the footballing world, with club sponsors also making their feelings known about the issue.
Taking to Twitter, Keys offered his criticism of Brady, claiming that she has handled the situation poorly and that the decision to prioritise football in this matter was the wrong thing to do:
TIF Thoughts on Richard Keys’ comments regarding Karren Brady, Kurt Zouma and West Ham United…
Should Kurt Zouma play for West Ham again?
Yes
No
In fairness to Brady, whilst the club hierarchy might want to have some say in the overall picture of the club, at the end of the day, the decision to play should come down to the manager – a point which David Moyes made clear after the game when he said (as per The Telegraph): “My job is to pick the best team I possibly could, find a way to get three points for West Ham.”
And with West Ham United making it clear in their statement that the matter has been dealt with internally, saying: “Zouma has been fined the maximum amount possible following his actions”, until any further action comes in from outside the club, there’s only so much that the club can do.
So perhaps the anger from Keys should be placed at Moyes for his decision rather than Brady herself in this situation. Also, given his past, it is slightly rich for Keys to be trying to give a lecture regarding morals, so he might not be the best person to be talking about this particular situation.
