ExWHUemployee has been discussing Jarrod Bowen and his place within the team at West Ham United.

It’s fair to say that since his move to the club in 2020, Bowen has been a rousing success at the London Stadium, with 18 goals and 20 assists for David Moyes’ men from out wide. However, he could be set for a different role in the side for the next few weeks.

Which defender born in 1985 used to play for West Ham's academy?

With Michail Antonio, the Hammers’ main goal threat for the past few years, away on international duty with Jamaica, the Hammers don’t have any options to turn to when it comes to centre-forward.

Writing on his Patreon page, insider ExWHUemployee claimed that Hammers boss Moyes intends to use the 25-year-old as the defacto centre-forward for the foreseeable future, before turning to other options once Antonio is back.

Ex wrote: “Moyes has confirmed he is happy to go with Bowen as the backup to Antonio (this is likely to be the case in the FA Cup with Antonio playing on Thursday evening for Jamaica). He will then use [Andriy] Yarmolenko and [Sonny] Perkins as other forward options.”

It’s a role that Bowen isn’t exactly uncomfortable with, as he has played there numerous times for West Ham and at previous club Hull City, so it’s understandable why Moyes might want to look at that option when Antonio isn’t available.

However, this shouldn’t be seen as the solution to the problem in the long run. West Ham have needed some extra bodies up top for some time now, and the solution can’t be to just shoehorn other players into the role moving forward.

This move should in fact perhaps come as a warning to Moyes and West Ham that they need to find a solution as soon as possible, or it could cause them problems for a long time to come.
