David Moyes has been speaking about the future of Issa Diop at West Ham United, with the manager giving off very mixed messages.

The French centre-back has seen himself previously linked with a move to some of Europe’s top clubs such as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter being tipped to swoop for the centre-back for up to £50 million, as per Claret & Hugh.

Will West Ham make the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This is despite CIES Football Observatory, which has developed a unique scientifical way of calculating a player’s market value, claiming that the Frenchman’s value is currently standing at €10-15 million (up to £12.5m), which suggests that the Hammers should snap any club’s hands off if they get anything above that, never mind the £50 million PSG are reportedly looking to spend.

Moyes spoke about Diop and the comments were relayed via Claret & Hugh, saying: “We like Issa, we really do. We think Issa has, I was going to say potential, but we feel because he has been here that long we feel his potential should be out and he should be showing it and maturing with it.

“He has a lot of good attributes and I am pleased he did play well, he had a good game [against Leicester City] and I could not turn around and fault him too much on anything he did.”

While these comments appear to suggest that Moyes clearly likes Diop, he appears to be less than impressed by the way he has not improved and kicked on since joining the club in 2018, highlighting that he hasn’t matured.

TIF Thoughts on Issa Diop’s future at West Ham United…

Since Diop joined West Ham in 2018, he’s seen his number of appearances decrease season upon season, while the Hammers have also brought in players such as Michael Dawson and Kurt Zouma during his time at the London Stadium.

So a fresh start could be what’s best for him, while the Hammers could pull off a solid piece of business if the reported £50 million price tag is true.

Even when Diop has featured this season, he’s been less than impressive, winning just three tackles in nine starts for the Hammers, keeping two clean sheets in the process, so everything appears to point in the way of Moyes cutting ties with someone who’s been hanging around and seemingly getting worse given his lack of minutes every season, despite attracting interest from top European clubs.
