Tanguy Ndombele has impressed during his short time back at Lyon, and the French side could make his loan deal a permanent one in the summer.

The Frenchman struggled to fully get to grips with the English game after he signed for Spurs in 2019 for £64m. But Lyon could offer Daniel Levy £54 million for his services this summer if they wish to do so.

However, the deal will seemingly only go through if the French side win the Europa League, and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has spoken on the matter.

He told RMC (via GFFN): “We have to let a few games pass by, we’re only at the start. But if we win the Europa League, anything is possible.”

Interestingly, CIES Football Observatory, a group that has developed a powerful econometric approach to assess the transfer value of professional footballers on a scientific basis, has valued Ndombele at only €20-€30 million (as high as £25m).

TIF Thoughts on Tanguy Ndombele potentially leaving Spurs permanently and his estimated value…

Ndombele featured just nine times for Spurs in the first half of the Premier League season, so was clearly out of favour.

There have been glimmers of hope for the Frenchman after his talent started to shine through, but this would be halted by either a lack of game time or him not being able to keep up with the pace of the game.

If Lyon wanted to sign Ndombele on a permanent deal, then the clause in his loan deal states that they will have to pay £54m, and with the Lyon president confirming that he could be tempted to pay this, Daniel Levy will surely be filled with joy.

Considering his estimated value as per CIES, Levy will be laughing if he can get his hands on this amount of money for someone who could barely break into the starting XI and was starting to get booed off by fans at Spurs.

His stats definitely back up the fact that his valuation sits well below the £54 million touted as he ranks 18th in the Spurs squad for average rating in the current campaign and doesn’t even feature in the top 10 in the passing and defensive departments, despite playing far fewer games than most of the squad.

Ndombele’s talent is clear, and his highlights reel would be something to catch anyone’s eye. However, he couldn’t quite keep up with the English game.
