Sports journalist Dean Jones insists that Spurs boss Antonio Conte won’t be scared to quit if he isn’t supplied with the correct financial backing.

Conte came in as Spurs boss in November and started well after he was the first manager in the club’s history to remain unbeaten in his first nine league games.

However, after an underwhelming transfer window, Conte has displayed his frustrations in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

Jones told GiveMeSport that if those upstairs at Spurs don’t prove that they are ‘ambitious’, then the Italian boss will ‘walk’.

He said: “The power figures at Spurs have to convince Conte that they are ambitious – if they don’t, he’ll walk. This is not a man that is going to accept broken promises. They told him they would back him and he understood that the aim was Champions League football. They have to prove it.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments about Antonio Conte…

Conte turned Spurs’ season around, and it seemed right for Daniel Levy to give him the funds to have a productive transfer window, but this wasn’t the case.

Instead, they offloaded some of the deadwood such as Dele Alli off the wage bill, which was arguably good business.

However, if Levy had his full trust in Conte and wanted to show the Italian that he is ambitions as an owner, then he should have supplied Conte with more money to invest in the types of players that he wanted, so that he could have strengthened the side more than he was able to in January.
