Tottenham Hotspur are a club to watch out for in the summer in the expected race to sign Jesse Lingard as a free agent.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on episode 88 of the Here We Go podcast to discuss possible transfers we should expect to see in the summer.

Would you like to see Spurs sign Lingard?

Lingard was linked with a potential move to Newcastle United on loan last month, but due to the clubs struggling to find an agreement, Manchester United pulled the plug on a late move to Tyneside. This reportedly has led to him feeling unhappy at Old Trafford.

And reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold broke the news of Spurs holding an interest in the 29-year-old as a potential option for the summer.

With competition expected to come from the likes of West Ham United, Romano had the following to say on the future of the Englishman ahead of the summer:

“So now the situation is very clear. I see Jesse Lingard leaving the club as a free agent in the summer. West Ham will be in the race, Newcastle will be again in the race because they wanted him and they were really serious on Deadline Day.

“And also Tottenham, keep an eye on Tottenham, because they’re always keeping an eye on opportunities, and Jesse Lingard could be an interesting one.”

TIF Thoughts on Jesse Lingard to Spurs…

Interestingly, Spurs legend Clive Allen stated a few weeks ago that the playmaker could help unlock Harry Kane.

Over the course of the January window, Spurs saw Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso all depart – two of whom could return from their loan deals.

So we do wonder whether Tottenham’s interest in Lingard may depend on their ability to offload Ndombele and Lo Celso on permanent deals.

Lingard’s contract with Manchester United will expire at the end of June, which will likely mean the midfielder will be looking for what could potentially be his last big contract at the age of 29.

Given the Englishman is believed to be earning in the region of £75k per week, if this a deal which Spurs feel could be worth pursuing – with Lo Celso and Ndombele reportedly earning a combined weekly wage of £270k – they could solve a few issues while saving plenty of cash in the process.
