Fabrizio Romano has been speaking in the latest video on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel to discuss Antonio Conte’s time at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian football journalist has claimed Conte was not left particularly impressed by the business done in the January transfer window.

However, it is believed he is hopeful of the north London club adding to their squad in a more impressive fashion over the summer.

Five players departed Hotspur Way last month, but only two new faces came through the door in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

And with four of those five players expected to return from their loan spells at the end of the season, Romano believes the Italian manager feels a big summer lies ahead of the north Londoners.

“So I’m told that the reaction to the market was not great, because we know that the targets were different for Tottenham. They wanted Adama Traore, they wanted Luis Diaz. Kulusevski is a very good deal, so Antonio is happy with him, but they were expecting something different.

“Antonio is a fighter, so he’s together with the team, he’s together with the club, he expects an important summer for Tottenham. So the real mission will be in the summer for Spurs to rebuild with Antonio Conte.”

TIF Thoughts on the summer at Spurs…

Spurs were unable to land either of their main two targets in Adama Traore and Luis Diaz last month, having been heavily linked with both.

And it sounds like Conte is hoping for higher quality players to come through the door in the summer, but could that depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League?

Their hopes of Champions League football were dealt a blow on Wednesday night as they capitulated in the latter stages of their game against Southampton, which saw them drop all three points from a winning position.

Failing to land a spot in the top four could seriously hinder their chances of bringing in the higher calibre of player which Conte is clearly looking for.
