Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel to discuss Bryan Gil’s January departure.

The 20-year-old winger signed for the north Londoners back in the summer from Sevilla, however, has found himself returning to Spain on Deadline Day in a move to Valencia.

Do you think Bryan Gil has a future with Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Gil has not left permanently, though. The youngster has made the move to the Mestalla on a short-term loan basis to gain the Spaniard some experience of playing first-team football.

It had been a difficult start to the campaign for the 20-year-old in north London, with just 86 minutes of top-flight action under his belt since arriving in the summer (via Transfermarkt).

And across his 20 appearances for Spurs, Gil has only been able to provide one assist, however, Gold strongly believes the Spanish ace is still firmly in Tottenham’s plans for the future.

He said: “I think Conte has clearly come in and looked at him and just thought, ‘hmm, are you kind of up for the fight? Are you strong enough, are you physically strong enough to kind of do what I want you to do?

“But from everything I’m hearing, they see him as a real big part of the long-term future. He’s got a long contract, he’s only 20. So their logic, they think, is that get him out to Valencia now, get him six months or so – what is it, four or five months of football? For his development right now, that will serve him better in their mind, they think, than sitting on the bench at Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Bryan Gil’s loan…

It has been a tricky start to life in north London for Gil, but a number of factors have to be considered when assessing his performances.

He is still incredibly young and made a bold move to a country with a different culture and language, so writing him off after just a matter of months would be ridiculous.

Adding to that, he has not had a regular run of starts in the team yet, and just days after moving to Valencia, Gil has already racked up a full 90 minutes for Los Murcielagos.

If Gil is to achieve consistent game time in Spain, we are interested to see how his role may change at Tottenham come the 2022/23 campaign.
