Sports journalist Dean Jones believes that Spurs could benefit from the experienced Arturo Vidal if Antonio Conte was to confirm a reunion in the summer.

The 131-cap Vidal currently plays his football at Inter Milan but has been linked to a move away from Italy to the Premier League with Aston Villa and Spurs showing the most interest.

Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that in Tottenham’s current state, they could do with some “character”, which is a thing Vidal can certainly offer.

“I think with Vidal, there will obviously be some concerns about signing a player like that and what he truly brings.  But, certainly, it can be argued that the character side is something Tottenham could do with right now.” Jones reported.

Short-term partner for Hojbjerg?

The Chilean is 34-years-old but still has a lot to offer as a player after he has featured 17 times for Inter this campaign – while he has only started 4% of the games, he could add much need experience to the Spurs side.

With Hojbjerg a permanent fixture in the Spurs midfield, he has lacked a solid midfield partner with Harry Winks being out of favour, and Tanguy Ndombele being shipped off on loan to Lyon.

The Denmark international is a player who occupies an ‘unglamorous’ role in the Spurs side and doesn’t chip in with regular goals or assists. But if he had a player like Vidal next to him in the heart of the Spurs midfielder then they could complement each other, as Vidal offers a greater attacking prowess.

Vidal would be a dream signing for Conte given the experience he could bring to the table and add that veteran presence in the dressing room like he had instilled at Inter.

Replacement for Harry Winks?

Harry Winks has been out of favour this season, he has featured 11 times in the Premier League with just 36% of those appearances as starts, according to Transfermarkt.

There were reports that Harry Winks was ‘keen’ on a move away from Spurs in January but nothing was agreed for the 26-year-old.

Despite Winks’ lack of form last campaign, the Englishman was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, and therefore there may still be hope for him that he can revitalise a career.

However, Arturo Vidal’s arrival at Spurs could mean an exit for the 26-year-old, with Winks being pushed further down the pecking order, especially when you consider Rodrigo Bentancur’s recent arrival too.
