Alasdair Gold has given his praise towards Matt Doherty, after Spurs’s 4-0 thrashing against Leeds this afternoon at Elland Road.

Spurs found themselves 2-0 up after 15 minutes when Doherty opened the scoring, and then turned provider for the second goal when he set up Dejan Kulusevski.

In the 27th minute, Harry Kane increased the deficit to three, meaning Leeds had now conceded their ninth goal in one and a half games.

Leeds then conceded their 10th goal in two games in the 85th minute when Harry Kane set up Son Heung-Min, which meant the game finished 4-0 to Spurs.

Matt Doherty has struggled to find his feet at Spurs since he joined the club, but today showed a glimpse of what he can do after he scored his first goal for the club and registered an assist – quite the vindication for Antonio Conte’s decision to start him ahead of Emerson.

Alasdair Gold had kind words to say about the 30-year-old in his player ratings and gave him an 8/10 – the same score as Son.

“Matt Doherty scored his first goal for Tottenham with a clinical and powerful finish from Sessegnon’s low cross. Moments later he combined with Kulusevski for Spurs’ second goal. Almost set up Sessegnon for a goal with a low ball into the box. A good day for the Irishman who played well at both ends of the pitch. 8/10″

Doherty was given a Sofascore rating of under seven in his previous three games, and after today’s impressive performance, Conte will be hoping he can continue performing well for the remainder of the season.
