Newcastle United looked in serious trouble when Wilson’s time on the side line was lengthened, but the Magpies have responded well and managed to get goals from other areas.

Pete O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT that it is ‘positive signs’ for Eddie Howe after his side has managed to source goals despite their main forward Callum Wilson, having a lengthy injury.

“Callum Wilson, I think it’s a big blow for Newcastle, but the last couple of games they’ve showed a great response with two wins on the spin, and other players have chipped in with goals. So, positive signs for Eddie Howe.” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on Wilson’s injury woes and Newcastle’s ability to deal without him…

It was apparent that even when Callum Wilson was fit, Newcastle lacked goals. And with the injection of funds from the Saudi takeover, a new striker was a necessity for Howe.

Although Howe did bring in Chris Wood from Burnley, the Magpies boss opted to bring in players from other areas of the pitch in order to source more goals.

This plan has seemingly worked for Howe after his side scored three goals against Everton a week ago today, and created several chances in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Chris Wood has scored 50 goals in 159 Premier League appearances, whilst this is a good record, he was never going to come in and be the answer to the Magpies goal problem. But his ability to supply other players with chances and help build attacks, he has already shown his worth for Newcastle so far.

Howe brought in England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, who is known for his set piece capabilities, and he’s now scored two free-kicks in consecutive games. Albeit, Trippier may  not have been brought in primarily to score free kicks, his ability from dead balls and from crossing areas could be key for Newcastle as they look to increase their attacking threat.
