Journalist Pete O’Rourke has urged Newcastle United to go out and sign Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer market at the end of the season.
This January, the newly-rich Magpies went out and signed some big names such as Keiran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Chris Wood as they aim to fend off the possibility of relegation.
Up to this point, those deals look to have done the trick, as Eddie Howe’s men have now risen out of the bottom three, having been unbeaten in all five Premier League games they’ve played since the start of the new year.
If they are to avoid dropping into the Championship, they will be in a great position to go and strengthen their team once more next summer.
With that in mind, O’Rourke has claimed Leeds United midfielder Phillips would be the exact sort of ‘statement’ signing the club should make, amid reports that the Magpies are monitoring the England ace.
Will Kalvin Phillips be a Leeds player next season?
Yes
No
He told GiveMeSport: “Signing somebody like a Kalvin Phillips, an England international, a top Premier League player, would be a huge statement from Newcastle.”
