Newcastle United saw off a plucky Brentford side with a 2-0 victory at Brentford Community Stadium in a professional performance.

Eddie Howe’s side made the advantage count, pressing on in the opening 45. Joelinton opened the scoring, assisted by Ryan Fraser before Fabian Schar set up Joe Willock to double the lead just before the interval.
There were no goals in the second period, but Lee Ryder was keen to highlight the importance of Ryan Fraser, praising him on social media throughout the game.
Taking to Twitter on multiple occasions to laud the wide man, he said: “Fraser again dinks in a cross headed across goal by Murphy with Wood then seeing his header saved by Raya. Fraser causing havoc for Brentford today #nufc.”
He then went on to claim: “Fraser wins a free-kick. He’s close to the top of his game at the moment. #nufc.”
It’s clear to see how highly he rated the performance from Fraser, who is clearly taking the responsibility while Allan Saint-Maximin is sidelined – the Scot was barely used by former manager Steve Bruce, having not played the full 90 minutes once under his manager this season. That has changed dramatically with the winger doing so on five separate times, including starting the last nine Premier League games.
His performance has helped Newcastle take another step closer to safety, moving up to 14th in the league table, leapfrogging the side they downed on Saturday afternoon.
They now have four points between themselves and the drop, some going considering they were the last side to register a win this season.
