The Athletic journalist George Caulkin believes that there has been a turning point in terms of performances for Newcastle United, after a good display against West Ham.

The Newcastle faithful have been critical this season of their sides performances, however Caulkin has reported that they don’t ‘despise’ the way that Howe has got his team playing.

On Twitter, Caulkin posted: “Newcastle have played really well here, the concession apart. There have been a few holes at the back and an understandable lack of cutting edge up top, but THEY NO LONGER ABSOLOUTELY DESPISE THE FOOTBALL and, in difficult circumstances, that is quite something.”

TIF Verdict on George Caulkin’s comments…

After the atrocious start to the campaign for the Magpies, the Newcastle fans have seen a change in form from their side in recent weeks and they now sit out of the relegation zone.

The fact that the Magpies fans did not ‘despise’ the football on display at the Olympic Stadium this afternoon is a huge improvement from before Christmas. Especially under the horrific conditions that storm Eunice has caused, with the wind making it even harder to play proper football.

You would expect the performances to see a change after the transfer window that Newcastle have just had, but with Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin side-lined until further notice, there were some doubts that the form would continue.

However the Magpies did in-fact manage to continue their fine form and were able to secure a point against top-four chasing West Ham United away from home.
