Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has told GiveMeSport that there is an air of confidence around the place at Newcastle United after the recent injection of funds that allowed a new crop of players to come in.

In recent times, confidence has been something that Newcastle have lacked, but with the takeover of the club and the new calibre of players that they have able to bring in, spirits are high in the Magpies camp.

Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood all came in during the January transfer window. The new-look team made an instant impact in their first league game since the window shut as they beat Everton 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Keith Downie said: “I get the impression from talking to Eddie and other people at the club, there’s a real confidence they can get out of this.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s growing confidence after Saudi takeover…

Soon after the takeover was announced, Howe was appointed as manager, and that was the start of the supposed new lease of life at St. James’ Park.

However, there wasn’t an instant upturn of results for the Magpies, as they failed to string a run of good results together, but Howe was persistent when talking to the press and told the world that he won’t be throwing the towel in.

As the midweek games have come to an end, the Magpies see themselves sitting in unfamiliar territory, outside of the bottom three – so it is no surprise there is an abundance of confidence amongst the team.

There is no easy game in the Premier League, however, in the upcoming weeks, Newcastle face sides in the bottom half of the table, and this could be a great chance to see if they can build on this on growing confidence and push further away from the drop zone.
