TalkSport pundit Ally McCoist has given his view on Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo after he ran down the tunnel last night at Turf Moor without acknowledging the away fans.

Ronaldo was dropped to the bench last night and didn’t feature until the 68th minute – before letting his emotions get the better of him.

McCoist understood the 37-year-old’s frustrations, but made it clear that it is important to always thank the fans for their support, especially when it is an away fixture on a Tuesday night…

The Rangers legend said: “I do feel he should be acknowledging the fans. That should always be done.

“The travelling fans in particular, certainly from my experience, can be the more vocal your team’s support and they travel long distances and spend an awful lot of money.

“I can understand that sometimes the overall disappointment of defeat getting to you and just wanting to get off the park.

“I think you should always go over to your travelling support and give them a ‘thank you’.”

TIF Thoughts on Ally McCoist’s comments and Ronaldo’s actions after storming down the tunnel…

Ronaldo has a past of throwing his toys out of the pram, but this signifies his competitive nature and willingness to help the team.

Although McCoist has got it to a T when he mentions acknowledging the away support, the United faithful may sympathise with one of the greatest footballers of all time because he is simply in anger about not being able to get enough time on the pitch to spur his side onto victory.

The Portuguese star may come out and say it was simply frustration because of the result, but there will surely be some United fans who travelled all that way who were not best pleased with not even getting a sign of appreciation from one of their heroes.

Ralf Rangnick has got a decision to make ahead of Saturday’s match against Southampton at Old Trafford, as he has to decide whether he starts Ronaldo or punishes him by keeping him on the bench…
