Liverpool: Fabrizio Romano drops James Milner contract update

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about James Milner’s contract situation at Liverpool on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

The Liverpool midfielder, who can also play as a full-back, is set to be out of contract in the summer, and after just seven league starts all season, it may have made sense for Milner to move on to another club where’d be guaranteed more game time.

Will Salah leave Liverpool this summer?

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case, with Romano confirming that talks are underway and progressing well for Milner to sign an extension and remain at Anfield, despite being 36 years of age.

Romano revealed why Milner and Liverpool are looking to seal a new deal.

He said: “They’re in negotiation with Milner, this is the truth. It is not done yet, but negotiations are progressing very well. He’s not retiring, so they’re super happy with him.

“Jurgen Klopp is a big fan. He’s an important player also in the dressing room. The impact he has with young players around the club – it is always important to have these kinds of players at the top clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on Milner staying at Liverpool…

While Milner is nowhere near a regular starter for Liverpool anymore, his presence, experience and leadership off the field are likely what’s set to land him another contract at Anfield, and as Romano claimed, his impact on younger players also can’t be underestimated.

Milner is averaging a 6.62 WhoScored rating across all competitions this season, which is perhaps good enough for someone of his age and factoring in the lack of minutes he actually gets, making it difficult to impress during cameo appearances. Meanwhile, it would likely cost Liverpool a lot of money to find someone of Milner’s calibre to sit on the bench.

  • Dude says:

Romano is always very vocal on what is supposedly going on at Liverpool. He’s just reporting what has already been mentioned in other media outlets. If everything happened which he says then we’d have a huge squad to make Citeh’s look like Everton. He’s like the other fella in Spain, Guillame or something. Or Castle’s on The Times. They make stuff up.
