The Leeds United slump continued, with a third embarrassing defeat in a seven day period appearing to be the final nail in to coffin for Marcelo Bielsa. He watched on as Spurs ran riot in Yorkshire, sweeping aside Leeds 4-0.

The final whistle had only just sounded as reports broke that the Argentine looked to be on borrowed time at Elland Road, with the hierarchy seriously close to replacing him with Jesse Marsch.

Sunday morning did see Bielsa lose his job at Leeds, ultimately paying the price for a humiliating run of results.

Should Leeds replace Bielsa?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Bielsa has been heavily criticised for his open style of football, with Paul Merson saying this after the game: “They’ve worked so hard to get to where they are in this league, and at the moment it is fizzling away. I love watching Leeds, I have no affinity to Leeds and I love watching them, but I know there is going to be goal after goal, no matter what end it’s going to be – and that’s worrying.”

“Every neutral wants to watch Leeds United play football and that’s not right. That’s not right, not at the moment, it’s not time for all of us to want to watch Leeds United play football.”

Graham Smyth shared this sentiment, and looked at what Bielsa tried to do (unsuccessfully) to change that yesterday. He took to Twitter to go on record with: “Marcelo Bielsa tried a more defensive midfield against Spurs and it still didn’t work. Precious little is right now. The Verdict on the day patience began to run out at Elland Road and the huge risks facing Leeds United tonight.”

It certainly is a worry for Leeds, they have conceded 60 goals this season, that’s more than any other club in the division, even bottom place Norwich have conceded less.

Who was sent off in his first game as captain?

The number has been inflated in the last week, with Manchester United and Spurs putting four past Bielsa’s team each. In between those games, the rearranged clash with Liverpool saw the Reds hit them for six.

That sort of defensive record is going to be a worry – you certainly can’t ship 14 goals in a matter of days and pretend it’s fine. Does Bielsa actually have the answers or will the board make a change?
