Leeds United journalist Conor McGilligan has stated that Patrick Bamford is showing ‘no signs of improvement’ with his current injury issue.

Earlier on in the season, an ankle injury kept the England man out of action for a while. He then made a brief goalscoring return against Brentford in December before picking up a hamstring injury (via Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately, however, while talking on a Leeds Live Facebook video, McGilligan explained how Bamford has failed to make much of a recovery in the months since and claimed this will be a ‘hammer blow’ for the club.

Will Leeds improve in the second half of the season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

While talking about the limited impact Bamford has had this season ahead of their upcoming clash against Aston Villa, McGilligan said: “He’s only played five games. Came back for Brentford, scored, which was brilliant. Then got injured in the celebration, which was typical.”

He then concluded: “So he’s going to be out for this game. His foot injury is reoccurring. Apparently, there’s no signs of improvement there, which is a hammer blow.”

TIF thoughts on Patrick Bamford and Leeds…

Last season, Bamford was very much Leeds’ main man. He actually played in every league game – scoring 17 goals – which is in stark contrast to what he has achieved this term.

Without their star striker, Marcelo Bielsa’s men have struggled, too. Indeed, they currently languish in 15th spot and could be pulled into a relegation fight with a couple of bad results.

Without Bamford up top, the points have been hard to come by, and the club’s goal difference of -16 is the fourth-worst in the entire division.

With that in mind, it seems as if his prolonged absence really is a hammer blow to the club, who must be hoping for an improved second half of the season.
