Presenter Joe Wainman has claimed that he does not believe Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville will ‘make the grade’ at the club.

In the latter stages of the January transfer window, it was revealed that the winger wanted to leave Leeds. Manager Marcelo Bielsa explained as much, saying: “He spoke with me and he told me that he wanted to leave. I told him there wasn’t any problem with him leaving.”

However, in the end, the player did not end up getting his desired exit, with Leeds seemingly not allowing him to go despite the manager giving his blessing.

Will Crysencio Summerville make it at Leeds?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Argentine said of the situation: “The club has a different outlook because the player has a contract and there are obligations. I don’t have the power to decide those things.”

While discussing Summerville on the JustJoe Football Show, Wainman said that he didn’t think the player was good enough to make it at the club anyway, likening him to current loanee Ian Poveda.

He said: “I may be wrong and this may come back to bite me, but whenever I’ve seen Summerville, he has not pulled up any trees. Okay, we might not have seen enough of him, you could argue.

“But I look at him and I put other players like Poveda etc in that same bracket, they’re, for me, not going to quite make the grade.”

TIF Thoughts on Crysencio Summerville and Leeds…

Since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City in January 2020, Poveda has struggled to make much of an impact at Leeds.

Indeed, he has failed to score in 20 senior appearances for the club and was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers at the start of the current season.

Summerville has shown plenty of promise at youth level for the Peacocks – scoring nine times and claiming eight assists in 24 outings for the Under-23s – but has yet to repeat that form in the first team. In eight outings for Bielsa, Summerville has no goal contributions.

With that in mind, it seems as though Wainman would be happy enough to see the 20-year-old leave, and the stats arguably justify his stance.
