Sam Tighe has been speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast about Everton’s current position in the Premier League and how their squad is too good for the relegation battle they’re currently in.

Everton ended up having a very eventful but also successful window, as they fired and hired a manager while also managing to bring in four new players. However, they did see one of their best creative outlets in the form of Lucas Digne, who racked up 11 goal-creating actions last term, depart.

Will Lampard succeed at Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The Toffees will be hoping that Frank Lampard can arrive at Goodison Park and quickly turn around their fortunes, because if he doesn’t, they will certainly be slipping towards the bottom three as they’ve won just one of their previous 14 league outings, which is undoubtedly relegation form.

Given the number of internationals Everton have in their current squad and the fact they have added two players in the form of Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek, who have top-level experience, Tighe can’t understand how they are in a relegation scrap.

He said: “Every single player in his Everton team is playing below their perceived level.

“You scan through that team – on paper, what on earth is this team doing down there? And why and how have we got to the point where, over the last couple of months, there are very few teams in England you would be less confident in [them] winning, like Everton just have been on this ridiculous slide for the last two to three months.

“It’s easy to forget they’ve got Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison and Demarai Gray and now they’re adding Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek into the mix. I mean, the fact that they could be within one point of a relegation scrap if they lose their next game with that squad is absolutely ludicrous.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton…

After the happy 24 hours of Deadline Day which saw Lampard, Alli and Van de Beek arrive at Goodison Park, Everton were rocked by some bad news, with star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who’s only played six league games all season, set to be absent from the club’s FA Cup clash at the weekend due to a knee injury.

However, despite this news, Evertonians will be praying that Lampard gets off to a winning start before they had up to St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening, which could be seen as a must-win game for both sides, where both managers will be hoping their new signings can gel together quickly and make an impact immediately.
