Aston Villa have joined the list of clubs that have showed interest in signing Wilfred Ndidi with Gerrard reportedly ready to splash £50 million on a midfielder.

The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in the Foxes side and he still has two years left in his contract, meaning the transfer fee required to sign the Nigerian could be sky high.

Interestingly, the Daily Star recently reported that Steven Gerrard is set to be given a £50 million budget to go out and sign a midfielder with Wilfried Ndidi one of his targets.

Brendan Rodgers spoke in a press conference on Wednesday night and was clear on how much he believes the midfielder is worth.

When the £50million fee question was asked he said, “He’s worth more than that.”

However, According to CIES Football Observatory, a group who do exclusive research and statistical analysis on players have developed a powerful econometric approach to assess the transfer value of professional footballers on a scientific basis. Their analysis estimates that Wilfred Ndidi is worth between £16.7 million and £25 million.

So, if Villa were to have to offer a bid that exceeds the £50 million mark, which is looking likely after Rodgers’ comments, then research suggests they could seriously be getting ripped off.

TIF thoughts:

Ndidi has sparked interest in the past from several other clubs such as Manchester United having been a star performer for Leicester since he signed from Genk in 2017.

Indeed, Ndidi has offered his services in the back line this campaign due to injury woes for Rodgers in that area, however his natural position is in the middle of midfield where he can affect the play by winning first and second balls and use his engine to carry the team through 90 minutes.

With the Nigerian having two years left on his contract, and his talent that he has shown in recent seasons. Rodgers obviously feels that he can get a significant fee for Ndidi’s services, especially with the clubs mainly concerned being Villa, who have recently acquired a large sum for Jack Grealish, and Manchester United who are one of the wealthiest clubs in world football.
