New West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce could be set to bring in a new face to the club, with Jack Wilshere linked with a move to The Hawthorns.

Indeed, as reported by GiveMeSport, transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested that the former England international is someone the Baggies are ‘looking into’.

The ex-Arsenal man would be available to sign out of the transfer market as he is currently without a club, having left Championship outfit Bournemouth in the summer.

Speaking about his understanding of the situation, Jones said: “I’ve heard that Jack Wilshere might be one they’re looking into, just to see what his situation is and whether he would have any interest in joining West Brom.”

If the 30-year-old was to arrive at The Hawthorns, he certainly could have an effect on the club in the second half of the season…

Promotion hopes boosted

As things stand, West Brom’s push for promotion is not in the greatest of places. One win in their last seven league outings has seen them not only sack former manager Valerien Ismael, but also drop to sixth in the league.

Signing a player of Wilshere’s calibre would immediately lift spirits. After all, he does have 32 international appearances for England, while he has prior Championship experience with Bournemouth, so wouldn’t need too long to adjust to the division.

With Bruce now in as manager, the club will hope for a fresh start going into the second half of the season. If Wilshere was also to arrive, that sense of a new project could really begin to take hold.

Add to that, if he can show the quality in midfield he has displayed in the past, he could add some great technical ability to the team, so one could see how he might help the team either cement a spot in the top six, or even make a late push for automatic promotion.

Molumby upgrade?

Since arriving on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the season, Jayson Molumby has played a fairly regular role in the Baggies midfield – starting eight league games and coming off the bench in a further nine.

It’s hard to say he’s made that position his own, as he’s failed to score or register an assist and averages a fairly underwhelming 6.12 match rating, according to Infogol.

With that in mind, there’s every chance Bruce may want a little more from that position, and in Wilshere, he could have just that. Across his career, the Englishman has won two FA Cups and a Community Shield, and would potentially be an upgrade on what Molumby can offer in the middle of the park.
