Richard Mennear has been speaking on The Roar podcast about how he believes Roy Keane will become the new Sunderland manager.

Sunderland sacked Lee Johnson after their recent embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers, but since then, they have gone onto record back-to-back defeats and ultimately slide out of the race for automatic promotion.

They currently sit two points off second-placed Wigan Athletic, who have played four fewer games.

Would Roy Keane get Sunderland promoted?

Yes!

No!

Luke Edwards has claimed that he is anticipating Keane being appointed as the Black Cats’ new manager, however, with the likes of Grant McCann and Alex Neil still in the frame, nothing appears to be a guarantee.

Mennear offered his take on the managerial situation.

“I hope it is Roy Keane, I suspect at this moment in time it will be, I hope it will be. Let him get in, let him get cracking and just start winning some games.”

TIF Thoughts on Roy Keane to Sunderland…

The Black Cats have long been linked with a move for Keane to fill their vacant hotseat, however, given he was on FA Cup punditry duty over the weekend, there did not appear to be anything close, but with a few days until their next game, he could soon be announced.

Keane will have a great relationship with the Sunderland fans for what he did during his first stint as manager – getting them out of the Championship and into the Premier League – but as it is with any manager, and not least one that’s been out of the first-team management game since 2011, it’s a big risk.
