Fernandez will join Mark Jackson’s U23s side despite Leeds’ struggles with injuries up top in the senior team, where Patrick Bamford is still edging closer to a possible return.

The 18-year-old product of the Espanyol youth system kicked off Leeds’ January business, and these fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the addition.

What did these Leeds fans have to say?

“The future is bright”

“This can be huge in a future perspective, equally to the Gelhardt deal. Well done”

The Spanish-born forward had an impressive 2020/21 campaign with the Espanyol U19s, where he was able to find the back of the net 14 times in 21 appearances.

His arrival at Leeds comes following Joe Gelhardt’s promotion to Marcelo Bielsa’s senior side this season which has left Jackson’s youth team without the seven-goal striker for large parts of the campaign.
