Aston Villa found themselves eliminated from the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night having suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat which saw journalist Ashley Preece question the performance of Jacob Ramsey.

And it was apparent midfielder did not impress during the trip to Old Trafford with the youngster costing his side an equalising goal.

The defender played 86 minutes on Monday night at the Theatre of Dreams which saw Steven Gerrard’s side crash out of the FA Cup thanks to a Scott McTominay goal.

The away side did momentarily find themselves level in the second half after Danny Ings prodded home from an Aston Villa free-kick.

But the travelling fans’ celebrations were quickly brought to a halt with VAR checking the goal and ruling Ramsey to have fouled Edinson Cavani in the process of the cross from the free-kick.

Preece awarded the Villa midfielder with a 6/10 rating for his display against Ralf Rangnick’s side with the journalist noting a moment that left Gerrard seething on the sideline:

“Over-hit a pass out for Cash which Gerrard was furious about in the first half.”

“Another big learning game for the 20-year-old who, at present, seems to have lost that little bit of belief he had a few weeks ago. Needs to pull the trigger more,” said Preece on the youngster’s display.

Ramsey has started regularly for Villa this season with 17 appearances in the Premier League so far this campaign with the 22-year-old only benched under Gerrard in the clash against Manchester City.

However, with an underwhelming display on his record against Manchester United on Monday night, we are interested to see if he will keep his spot for the Red Devils’ visit in the league on the weekend.

Ramsey had an ok game for a young one still learning, 6/10 was about right. Pity the officials didn’t get 6/10 the game would have been different, once again VAR cheated us out of an equaliser, they looked for every possible reason to disallow the goal. I said on Friday how can you have VAR at some cup game and not at others? Surely all cup matches are played under the same rules, typical FA again don’t know what they are doing.
