Sunderland fans have had a great end to the week, with the club announcing the signing of Patrick Roberts from Manchester City on a short-term deal.

The winger joins the League One side from Premier League champions Manchester City, although he barely featured for them.

Will Sunderland finish in the top two?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The Black Cats have the option to extend his contract upon the conclusion of the current season, so Roberts will surely be desperate to earn that extension for himself with good performances.

Friday saw the official club account break the news of his arrival, with the Sunderland fans buzzing. They took to Twitter to make their elation known.

What the Sunderland fans said…

“Only took us 2 weeks, should be class though.”

“That’s potentially a huge signing, if his motivation is right then he’s a talent for this division alongside Pritchard!”

@LisgoSkol

While there is clear excitement around the move from Sunderland supporters, Roberts hasn’t got much experience behind him this season.

Where was Declan John loaned in from?

He has been on loan from Manchester City at Troyes for the first half of this season, failing to play a full game. In fact, he only has two appearances in all competitions under his belt, and those equate to just 90 minutes played.

Although it might take some time to get up to match sharpness, the forward can be deadly. During his time at Celtic, he enjoyed his most impressive run of form. He made 78 appearances for the Hoops overall, scoring 18 and assisting 26 – a very impressive return for him and something Sunderland will be desperate to see added to their promotion push this season.
