A number of Sunderland fans have reacted with joy after it was announced that Denver Hume has left the club in the January transfer window.

Indeed, as shown on the Black Cats’ official website, after 13 years with the Wearside outfit, the 23-year-old has joined Portsmouth on a permanent transfer, though the fee was undisclosed.

The announcement went on to thank Hume for his service to the club, as he came through the youth setup being an Academy of Light graduate.

Are you sad to see Denver Hume leave Sunderland?

No

The SAFC Twitter account shared the news on social media, and it is safe to say their supporters are not too sad to see him go.

Here’s what these Sunderland fans said…

“Just need Defoe for a hat trick of brilliant news today.”
“What a day.”

“Turning into a good day today.”
“Great news.”
“Wow.”
“What a time to be alive.”

This season, the left-back has had limited chances in the first team, partly due to injury, with Hume failing to start a single League One game. He was instead limited to four substitute League One appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Judging from that and the comments above, it’s fair to say he was not the most trusted player in the Sunderland squad. Even so, he leaves the club having played 84 times for the Black Cats’ senior side.

Still being pretty young, he will no doubt hope to do bigger and better things at his new club.
