ExWHUemployee has claimed that Lukasz Fabianski is waiting to know the ‘keeper ‘situation’ at West Ham United before signing a new contract.

As things stand, the Polish goalkeeper’s contract is set to run out next summer. Having played every Premier League game for the Hammers so far this season, it’s easy to understand how valuable the 36-year-old still is to the club.

However, it seems as though Fabianski wants to know who he will be playing with next season if he was to sign a new deal. Indeed, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex explained that uncertainty over the other goalkeeper at the club, Alphonse Areola, has left the Pole unsure of his own future.

Do you want Lukasz Fabianski to sign a new contract at West Ham?

No

He outlined his understanding, saying: “I’ve said which players the contracts negotiations have been had, Fabianski is one of them.

“You know, he’s been talking quite a lot about a new deal, but he wants to know what the ‘keeper situation is going to be.

“Is Areola going to be No 1? Is Areola going to even be signed? Is Sam Johnstone from West Brom the ‘keeper that they want to sign? There’s factors like that, that are hinging on it.”

TIF Thoughts on Lukasz Fabianski and West Ham United…

As things stand, Areola is only at the Irons on a one-year loan deal. However, the club do have the option to make that move a permanent transfer if they choose.

Still, the Frenchman has played second-fiddle to Fabianski all season and is yet to feature in the Premier League, so it is unclear as to whether or not West Ham will want to sign him at the end of the season.

The Hammers have also been linked to West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. If he was to sign, it would also be unclear if he was expected to take Fabianski’s spot, or if he would play backup.

Understandably, this lack of clarity has the current No 1 looking for some answers. No doubt, he’ll want to truly know the situation before he commits his future to the club.
