West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has stated that there is ‘definitely interest’ in signing Basel forward Arthur Cabral.

With the January transfer market now open, it is only natural that a number of players and clubs are put through the rumour mill.

Talking about a host of players to be linked with the Hammers, while co-hosting The West Ham Way podcast, Ex revealed that David Moyes and co may make a move for Cabral – who has scored 27 times in all competitions for his club so far this season.

However, the presenter did claim that a loan deal would be preferred initially, with potentially a view to signing him permanently at a later stage.

Would you take Gabriel Barbosa on a permanent deal at West Ham?

Ex explained: “Another Brazilian we have been linked with is someone called Arthur Cabral and he plays for Basel in Switzerland. He’s got a very good goals-to-game ratio as well.

“He’s looking very good out there. However, this is the same club that [Albian] Ajeti did the same at, and obviously, he didn’t work out at West Ham. And there’s concerns whether this would be the case now.

“He does look a bit more of a finished product than Ajeti was – he’s older, he’s played in more leagues than Ajeti had. But again, he hasn’t really played the top flight anywhere.

“So West Ham would be preferring a loan move for him, with potential to sign him at the end of the season. I’m not sure his club will entertain that.”

He then concluded: “But there is definitely interest.”

TIF Thoughts on Arthur Cabral and West Ham…

In 2019, Albian Ajeti joined West Ham from Swiss side Basel for a reported fee of £8m. He had impressed the season before, scoring 15 goals in 35 games, but struggled in England.

Indeed, he managed just nine league appearances, failing to score in that time, before being sold to Celtic after one campaign with the club.

Even though Cabral seems to be talented enough and has a bit more experience than Ajeti (as mentioned by Ex), the east London outfit will understandably not be keen to repeat such a mistake.

Still, having been directly involved in 35 goals in 31 games this season, a move for the 23-year-old striker may be too good an opportunity to pass up.
