ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are yet to finalise their list of transfer targets even though the January market how now opened.

With the Hammers pushing for European football – perhaps harbouring ambitions of playing in the Champions League next season – it seems more than likely that they will look to invest in their squad over the next month.

With that in mind, a number of players have been linked with a move to the Premier League club. For instance, Flamengo forward Gabriel Barbosa is believed to be a target for the club, while the same can be said about Reading midfielder John Swift.

However, according to Ex, manager David Moyes and the club’s head of recruitment Rob Newman have not ‘completely finalised’ their list of targets. While speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he explained that despite this, the club have at least ‘narrowed down their targets’.

He said: “I know this is going to shock people. The list of finalised targets that Moyes and Newman want the club to go for is not completely finalised yet.

“Yes, they’ve been doing work on it. Yes, they’ve narrowed down their targets, but it’s not narrowed down to ‘boom – this is the player I want’.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham and the January transfer market…

The winter transfer market can certainly provide plenty of opportunities to improve a squad. Relegation battlers Newcastle United seemed to have pinned their season’s hopes on some heavy investment this January.

Which defender born in 1985 used to play for West Ham's academy?

While West Ham’s situation is somewhat different to the Magpies, they too could likely do with a new face or two. In defence, two of their key centre-backs in Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna are both out with long-term injuries, so this may be an area to bolster.

With the first week of the window now nearly at an end, it could cause some concern to Hammers’ supporters to hear that the club does not yet entirely know who they want to sign. Still, there is plenty of time left to act yet and the club will not want to rush into any poor business.
