ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United could be interested in signing Reading midfielder John Swift.

Indeed, when discussing possible transfer targets on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said that the east London outfit are currently looking at a couple of options who play their football in the Championship.

He first mentioned defender Robert Dickie, who is currently at QPR, before then going onto Swift. Of the Reading man, he said his performances have drawn West Ham’s attention – but later concluded that a January move would likely come too soon for either player.

While talking about a number of different targets for the Hammers, Ex said: “Another person that was given to me this week is a midfielder, an attacking midfielder for Reading called John Swift.

“Apparently, he’s good at set-pieces as well. He’s got quite a good goals-to-game ratio for a midfielder. He’s someone that has also sort of caught our attention a little bit.

“Again, I don’t suspect at this point that either of them will sign in January, but players that are on the radar, and if certain things move in different ways, they could be ones that we look at.”

TIF Thoughts on John Swift and West Ham United…

At 26 years of age, the Reading man could well just be coming into the peak of his football career. His stats this season certainly suggest as much.

In 22 Championship games, he has scored eight times and then bettered that with nine assists – a pretty impressive record for a midfielder.

Which defender born in 1985 used to play for West Ham's academy?

Despite his excellent personal form, Reading still sit just one place and three points above the relegation zone. That Swift can perform so well in a struggling side only goes to prove his talent.

Perhaps this is something West Ham will consider if they do make a move for him – though, judging from Ex’s comments, any deal may only be attempted at the end of the season.
