Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the performance of Matt Doherty during their semi-final clash in the Carabao Cup.

Spurs entered the game 2-0 down from the first leg, with the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being a pretty significant one both for the club and boss Antonio Conte.

Spurs as a club knew that victory will bring them one step closer to ending their trophy drought, whilst Conte could add the trophy to his collection having failed to win it during his last spell in England.

Having entered the game behind, it was going to take something special in order to overturn the deficit, however special was not the way you would describe the performance of Doherty, at least according to the fans who were watching the game and commenting online.

He didn’t put up the best of performances defensively on the night, failing to make a tackle, an interception or a successful dribble and was dispossessed once (via WhoScored), so it was no surprise to see plenty of negative comments come his way from Spurs supporters before he was eventually subbed off just past the hour mark:

“Playing Doherty on the left is a joke. Always has to come inside as he’s got no left foot.”

“Still can’t grasp how Doherty plays football professionally”
“This squad needs so much investment, Doherty has to be our worst ever signing.”
“Doherty stealing a living right in front of our eyes”
“Soooo painful to watch!! Doherty is in the top three of worst players I have seen in a Spurs shirt! Dreadful”
“Doherty is a fraud.”
“Doherty, League 2 at best!”

Has Doherty been a flop at Spurs?

Reports have suggested that the club are willing to let the 29-year-old Irishman go during this transfer window, and based on this performance, it’s easy to see why.
