Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to quotes that have emerged from head coach Antonio Conte about his role at the club.
Tottenham had something of a hectic few months when it came to appointing a new boss to replace Jose Mourinho, with multiple men turning down the role before they eventually appointed Nuno Espirito Santo.
They were then forced to change course again as they sacked Espirito Santo after just 17 games in charge, appointing serial winner Antonio Conte to take over as they look to end a wait for silverware that has been going on for more than a decade.
Conte spoke about his appointment during his press conference ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea, where he made a pretty bold statement about why the club decided to go with him and what the club have to do in the future.
He said (as per Evening Standard): “I think that for Tottenham to bring me here, [the club] wanted to send a signal [to the] outside. And maybe also to our players. And now we’ll see what happens because after taking [on] the coach that is used to winning, then you have to do.”
These comments were relayed to Spurs fans by @thespursexpress on Twitter for them to react to, where it generated some interesting responses, with many seeing it as a message to the board that they need to back him in the January transfer window:
“Wow he’s throwing down the gauntlet to the powers that be… I’m praying they’re listening loud and clear”
Do you expect Levy to back Conte?
Yes

No

Strong words from Conte indeed, all that remains now is to see whether or not the board back him to the extent that he wants in order to mould the team how he likes it.
