Express Sport journalist Ryan Taylor has been speaking on his YouTube channel about Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Conte’s stance on Steven Bergwijn.

It had been reported by Fabrizio Romano earlier this week that Tottenham Hotspur were working to sell Bergwijn this transfer window with Ajax looking the most likely destination given they’ve already bid for the winger.

Will Spurs make the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, due to his sublime cameo against Leicester City on Wednesday evening which saw him score twice in stoppage time and win the game, Conte and the club’s stance appears to have softened their stance and would like to keep him at the club.

Taylor has claimed that Conte is now very much pushing to keep Bergwijn.

He said: “Tottenham have got a lot of games to play in the Premier League – only played 19 which is obviously the halfway mark, so it wouldn’t make sense for Spurs to really offload Bergwijn if there’s not a guaranteed replacement already on hand to sign, and there simply isn’t.

“I’ve not seen a lot of players linked with Tottenham in terms of credible, reliable and genuine interest, so I expect Bergwijn to stay now, and Conte’s been pushing for that.”

TIF Thoughts on Bergwijn…

Even though what Bergwijn did on Wednesday was incredible, from the player’s point of view he will surely need reassurances that Conte sees him as more than just an impact substitute, which is what he’s been since the Italian arrived having not started a single league game.

However, it’s up to Bergwijn to prove himself to Conte and show that he deserves a starting role and with just six league strikes to his name since he joined in January 2020, Bergwijn will certainly need to up his game to get into the Spurs lineup.
