Dean Jones has been speaking about the work Tottenham Hotspur are doing behind the scenes to get transfers completed on The Done Deal Show.

It is now almost two weeks into the January transfer window and Tottenham are still yet to bring a new face into the club, although someone such as Steven Bergwijn could be edging closer to the exit door.

Would Traore be an upgrade at Spurs?

Antonio Conte has now confirmed that he’s held a transfer meeting with Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici, so it would be no surprise to see transfer activity beginning to heat up in north London over the coming days, with Adama Traore seemingly the closest reported target to getting done.

Jones has been speaking about how Spurs are going about their transfer business and assessing targets behind the scenes.

He said: “They’re certainly working on things in the background and it’s pretty well highlighted that they tend to have a long list of 9-10 names that they then begin work on, start reaching out to agents, check out their relative availability, check out the value, check out their contract situations and start to whittle them down.

“They’ll talk to the final three or four at the same time and see which one starts to stand out as the strongest.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs transfer window…

If this is the way that Spurs are looking at targets by lining up 10 potential signings before whittling them down and eventually moving for one of them, it’s no surprise that they are still to act this window.

Conte is reportedly looking to bring in a right-sided player, striker, centre-back and a midfielder to help bolster Spurs’ squad, and thus help them mount a serious challenge for the top four heading into the business end of the season.
