A whole host of Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to Lyall Thomas’ striker search claim.

Newcastle are clearly after a striker this window, and more importantly, before their match against relegation rivals Watford on Saturday. And amid links to the likes of Chris Wood and Divock Origi, a young 19-year old is seemingly being lined up by the Magpies.

Will Newcastle sign a striker before Saturday?

Yes!

No!

No!

Hugo Ekitike from French outfit Reims has been linked with a £30 million move to the Premier League, with Thomas and Sky Sports reporting that the Magpies have held positive talks with the Ligue 1 club, and that a bid is ‘anticipated’.

However, a lot of Newcastle fans are not happy on Twitter with this transfer claim.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“This is not the time to mess about with youngsters from Ligue 1. We need players who have and can do it on the international stage, or the Premier League.”

@yournufc

“we are mudded”

@nufcrichys

“Now this is interesting. Would be a good move… But a bit risky in terms of getting us out of danger.”

@GraemeBell_NUFC

“Might as well put Dylan Stephenson in the team if we’re looking at 19 year olds”

@THawks1980

“19 year old striker we 19th in the league pal I don’t think that a kid is what we need at the moment sack ur sauce”

@BarDublin

“the guy looks so stiff and so immobile.”

@GeordieKyle

£30 million and the pressure of leading the line for a relegation-threatened side would be a lot for Ekitike to cope with, especially given this is his first regular season of football in France, but if someone like Wood, who reportedly has a release clause in his contract, is brought in alongside him, it could produce a good dynamic, as Ekitike knows where the net is with eight goals in 17 league appearances.
