A whole host of Newcastle United fans were left buzzing on Twitter with the latest striker transfer claim on Tyneside.

Newcastle looked to plug the gap left by Callum Wilson’s injury sustained before the turn of the year through the signing of Chris Wood, but his debut against Watford was less than impressive, with the New Zealander recording just three shots, zero on target and racked up just 35 touches (FBRef).

Do Newcastle need another striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This may have refocussed minds at Newcastle to bring in someone else to help shoulder the burden on Wood and also potentially allow Dwight Gayle to leave, with the forward having featured for just 31 minutes in the league this season – and that person could be Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata, with the Magpies reportedly offering £25 million for him, according to journalist Duncan Castles.

A lot of Newcastle fans were excited on Twitter about this transfer claim.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“Get this man in a fur coat outside St James now.”

@GeordieJohn88

“This would be an absurdly excellent signing and is therefore imaginary.”

@kicka11

“Oh yes”

@TbmV6

“This kids dynamite on his day. Get him at all costs.”

@handsom83686717

“Absolutely crackers if we manage to land him, although does seem a bit fishy with the recent Gosens link too”

@craigiobellio

“This would be a coup, he’s a beast.”

@SteButlers

“Now we’re talking lads a beast “

@Bryan1892nufc

“Unreal player”

@Jakeyjammin2

It’s very little surprise to see these Newcastle fans ecstatic to be linked to Zapata as his record in Serie A is a very respectable one – with 105 goals in 249 appearances, while also netting eight times in 22 Champions League appearances.
