Ousmane Dembele has been offered a big proposal from Newcastle United, according to Fabrizio Romano speaking on his latest Here We Go podcast

Newcastle have a big month ahead of them, with the opportunity to provide Eddie Howe with some players of his choice to help the club climb outside of the relegation zone.

And Romano believes one of the attacking options the Tyneside club have explored is the Barcelona winger Dembele, whose future in Spain is currently up in the air.

The 24-year-old Frenchman has just a number of months remaining on his deal with Barcelona and it is believed he will not be putting pen to paper on an extension, as it stands.

With just under two weeks until their next Premier League game, Romano offered the following update on the possibility of Dembele making the move to the north-east of England:

“Newcastle approached Dembele. They approached Dembele with a super proposal. But also, other clubs in England [are involved] and so it’s still an open race.”

TIF Thoughts on Dembele to NUFC…

The latest would suggest little has changed in Newcastle’s pursuit of Dembele, with Romano recently stating that nothing had been agreed and that Barcelona were still hoping to extend his current deal.

Nevertheless, the Toon still appear to be in the running for what would be a huge statement if they were able to acquire the £27m-rated Dembele in January. The winger, despite his age, has a ton of experience playing at the top level across his time with Borussia Dortmund and the La Liga giants.

Game time in La Liga has been hard to come by for the Frenchman this season having been sidelined for a large chunk of the campaign through injury (via Transfermarkt).

If a fit Dembele could arrive on Tyneside, we would be intrigued to see what impression on the Premier League he could make alongside Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.

However, it is worth noting that potential front three would be made of a group of players who all have their injury issues, so reinforcements for their possible absences may be needed on top.
