Newcastle United fans have been shocked to see their club potentially going for Spanish champion Yannick Carrasco in a surprise move.
They’ll be hoping he follows in the footsteps of Kieran Trippier by ditching Atletico Madrid for St. James’ Park.
Will Eddie Howe keep Newcastle up?
The news broke on El Chiringuito in Spain, with journalist Marcos Benito the one to report the claim. He suggests that the Magpies are doing everything they can to sign the Belgian international, with contact already being made with his agents.
The release clause in his contract is apparently now €60m (£50m), with NUFC360 on Twitter relaying the news from Spain with their followers.
What the Newcastle fans had to say…
“Carrasco is class, I’ve said it for ages, we should sign him #nufc.”
“Behave, he is a serious baller, get it DONE. Mehrad is gonna be in big trouble when Mandy gets back!”
“Please, please, please. I’ll do anything!”
“Surely Trippier can help convince him.”
“He’d be worth every penny.”
Signing Carrasco would be a huge statement of intent from Newcastle, with the 28-year-old having a wealth of experience. He has 48 games under his belt in the Champions League in his career – that would be some serious background to join a relegation fight.
Carrasco has been vital to Diego Simeone’s side, however, playing every game in all competitions bar one. To have that record at a top club shows how good he is and suggests he would improve the Magpies should a deal be agreed.
