Newcastle United fans have already seen one striker through the door this month, with Chris Wood joining the Magpies earlier in the window, but Eddie Howe isn’t satisfied there and is looking to add further ammunition to his frontline.

The latest reports are suggesting that managerless Everton are preparing for star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be targeted by other clubs, with him allegedly being discussed on Tyneside.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reported the news, also pointing out that Arsenal have had a long-term interest in the forward. So although it is far from straightforward for Newcastle to acquire the services of the England international, they’re certainly keeping tabs on developments, which is a good sign for the Toon Army.

Fans reacted to the claim on Twitter when it was relayed to them by Toon fanpage NUFC360.

What the Newcastle fans said on DCL…

“Imagine the outrage if we signed DCL…”

@MasonNUFC_

“Genuinely just pay whatever because the pure fume of Everton fans would be glorious!”

@JSpence24

“Imagine the fume.”

@NotSoLocalHero

“Pahaha imagine, just before we play them.”

@NUFC_LEW

“Now this, this would be outrageous.”

@pritchxrd__

“Is this a dream?”

@hully1972

Clearly, supporters want the move to happen, even if it is just to wind up other fanbases! You do feel it would take a big fee for Everton to lose one of their key players, especially when they rejected an £85m bid for Richarlison a couple of years ago.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

Although it has been an injury-hit season thanks to a fractured toe, Calvert-Lewin started the campaign on fire, scoring three in the opening three Premier League games. He is yet to score in his three games back from injury, but it’ll understandably take time to adjust back into the groove of top-flight football.
