Despite picking up only their second win of the season against Leeds United on Saturday, some Newcastle United fans were still left fuming with the performance of Joe Willock.

The midfielder was the lowest-rated player on SofaScore for the Magpies, with plenty of fans finding good reason to criticise the 22-year-old. Not even the team’s first away win of the season, and just their second overall, could spare the ex-Arsenal ace from the fans’ wrath.

Has Willock been worth the money?

Reading Twitter won’t be a good idea for Willock tonight, as these Newcastle fans were not holding back at all. One even compared him with former St James’ Park flop Kenedy, which sums up the 22-year-old’s hapless afternoon.

What these Newcastle fans said

“Is it too early to say that Willock is the new Kenedy? Just looks lazy and uninterested to me.” @NUFCCindiana

“Joe Willock stealing a living.” @mattywilson110

“Joe Willock looks like he can’t be bothered, get him off the pitch!!” @Aaron96_simpson

“Joe Willock absolutely shocking.” @lukelats

“Joe Willock plays like he’s hungover.” @jackrobertson17

“Willock and Longstaff are an embarrassment to the shirt.” @DayleBarron

These fans’ criticism of Willock is understandable. He only won three out of his 10 duels all day and made no interceptions or clearances either. Furthermore, he missed one key chance and had the same amount of touches (41) as Martin Dubravka in the Newcastle goal (SofaScore).

The win was absolutely huge for Newcastle however, they now move up to 18th in the table, just one point from safety with another game in hand. That means once again, climbing out of the relegation zone is in their own hands.
