Newcastle United fans were delighted after edging out Leeds United in a tight game at Elland Road 1-0, with Jonjo Shelvey’s free-kick winner unsurprisingly, grabbing the headlines.

Although jubilant after taking a huge step towards safety and putting it back in their own hands, the fans were still fuming with some antics on the pitch.

Can Newcastle afford to lose Saint-Maximin?

The Newcastle fans were adamant that Allan Saint-Maximin was fouled in the box, with the officials not sharing that view. Thankfully for the Toon Army, this decision didn’t cost them.

But outcry was huge despite the win, and when NUFC360 shared the clip on Twitter, the fans went into meltdown over the decision.

What the Newcastle supporters said

“How on God’s earth is this not given? As stone wall as you’ll ever get.” @craiglongmore

“I have watched this about 15 times, I get angrier every time.” @HedgesAh

“Still foaming about this mind.” @RBailss

“This is actually criminal. If we didn’t win today, this would’ve been a potentially season defining mistake by officials again. Too many VAR decisions have gone against us this season and officials seem to get away with it every time without consequences.” @gallogeordie

“Premier League want us down, we say NO to that!” @DazRouse6

“Premier League v #NUFC, still going strong.” @rhysgreenwood

The score was 1-0 to the Magpies when the incident occurred, setting up a tense finish as the fans feel denied a definite chance to extend their lead after a ‘criminal’ decision from the referee.

How many seasons did Siem de Jong spend on Tyneside?

The worry will have been running high after that, Newcastle have dropped 21 points from winning positions this season, with the same happening last time out at home to Watford. Conceding a late equaliser to drop two points that would’ve been ridiculously huge.
