Newcastle United fans have been given a huge boost in their hunt for Duvan Zapata, with Atalanta reportedly lining up alternatives should they lose the striker.

The Magpies have already seen an initial bid for the Colombian rejected by the Bergamo outfit, but there could still be a chance that a deal can happen.

Journalist Carl Markham claims that the Italian side are looking at Liverpool’s cult hero Divock Origi as a potential replacement should they lose Zapata to the Magpies this window.

NUFC360 relayed the news to the Newcastle supporters on Twitter, with many buzzing at the chance of signing him.

What the Newcastle fans said…

“Saw Zapata play Roma when I went on holiday there, honestly he’s so good. Only on the pitch for half an hour but bullied their defence and scored a goal. Hope this one is true.”

Which iconic boxer is a reported Newcastle fan?

Even Origi himself would be a good shout for Newcastle. Experienced in the Premier League, his three goals in the 2018/19 Champions League season helped Liverpool turn a three-goal deficit around against Barcelona in the semi-final, before putting the final to bed a few weeks later.

Therefore, his ability to perform at important moments could be crucial to a team like Newcastle battling the threat of relegation.
