Newcastle United’s gap to safety has widened before they’ve kicked a ball this weekend, as results on Friday saw relegation rivals secure a vital three points.

While it could work out to be the best possible result for the Magpies come the end of the season, as it stands, Eddie Howe’s side now find themselves further away from safety.

Will Newcastle sign Diego Carlos?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This is because a 3-0 win for Norwich at Watford on Friday night saw them leapfrog them and out of the relegation zone for now. The result means they extended their points advantage over the Toon to four points.

What did the Newcastle fans have to say?

“On paper, Norwich are worse. At what point do we start thinking it ain’t the squad? #NUFC.” @BananaArms2

“Surely if we are relegated, we can take the EPL to court for delaying the takeover beyond the transfer window.” @Kingfunkel

“Relegation.” @liam50741995

“Relegation beckons.” @DougDangero

“This is the worst bottom 4 ever and there’s a good chance we could be the worst out of those 4.” @handsom83686717

“Lose to Leeds then off to Saudi Arabia for a holiday… Win win for the players!” @DiscoDan18

“Only going one way now. There was no bounce from appointment of Eddie and the Cambridge result set them back a good bit too.” @PioMaher1979

“We are probably done” @johnsonP1977

While it has to be noted that Howe and his side have two games in hand on Norwich, Burnley have five, and three on Newcastle. Four points from two games in hand is far from an outrageous ask, however, when you have one win to your name all season in the league, it starts to look a little bleaker.

If Newcastle can get a win today against Leeds then the outlook could be completely different to what it is now, given how close it actually is at the bottom. But, if the worst happens and it’s another defeat, then it’ll be even gloomier around St James’ Park.
