It’s been an anxious wait for Newcastle United fans waiting to see if they can finally get Diego Carlos over the line and on Tyneside. However, amid the transfer saga which seems to have lasted an eternity, the Toon have sourced alternatives.
Another Brazilian defender in the form of Marcao is being touted as a possible cheaper alternative to Carlos, with €15m (£12.5m) being mentioned for his services, according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
Will Newcastle sign a new centre back?
It remains to be seen if Newcastle can strike a deal with Galatasaray for the defender, all we know is that time is running out to strengthen in central defence. NUFC360 shared this claim on Twitter, which saw the fans fume.
What the Newcastle fans said…
“Not very good at all, Galatasaray currently 15th in the Turkish league and are leaking goals. Massive risk. Probably also a lie #NUFC.”
“Doesn’t look comfortable on the ball, he’ll get eaten alive in the Premier League, left footed though.”
“Names being picked from a hat for next transfer target.”
“No, no and NO. We don’t want him!”
It’s clear to see these fans aren’t happy with the prospect of bringing in Marcao. Although, he is left-footed, so he would provide the Magpies with a natural option to play on the left of central defence.
However, his disciplinary record is a worry, he has already missed 10 games via suspension this season, with the majority coming for a fight on the field with his own teammate… sound familiar, Newcastle fans?
