Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims from Keith Downie over a potential deal for Lucas Digne.
Downie took to Twitter to explain that Newcastle have submitted a bid of £22.5m and Sean Longstaff in a cash-plus-player deal in their attempts to sign the French defender during this January’s transfer window.
However, he did also note that a move to St. James’ Park isn’t necessarily top of Digne’s list and “would prefer a move elsewhere, with London duo Chelsea & West Ham interested”.
Digne’s future at Everton is currently unclear following a recent bust-up with Toffees boss and former Newcastle head coach Rafael Benitez.
When Toon fans saw Downie’s tweet regarding Digne, it generated a number of interesting responses, with some rather excited about the prospect.
Will Newcastle sign Digne?
Yes!
No!
Despite the claims, it appears Toon fans should perhaps take them with a pinch of salt, as Downie went on to backtrack slightly, suggesting Newcastle’s approach was not ‘official’ and that they are in fact keen on keeping Longstaff at the club – so this story could yet go either way.
